Awesome Art! with Allison Lash
About Me- I am a mom, an artist, educator and photographer. I'm a true believer in exploration, experimentation and learning through play. I’ve earned my multi-media MFA at Rutgers University, NJ (drawing, painting, sculpture, metal pouring and mold making, ceramics, photography, installation, video, sound, performance and printmaking) and received my art education training from Studio In A School in collaboration with the Pratt Institute in NYC http://www.studioinaschool.org. I taught visual arts in NYC public schools for 10 years where I followed the Reggio Emilia inquiry based teaching approach http://www.reggiochildren.it/identita/reggio-emilia-approach/?lang=en. I am also a NY State certified visual arts teacher grades K-12. I moved to Austin with my husband and almost 5 year old 3 years ago and we are loving it! I created Awesome Art! last year and this will be my second year working with families at Brentwood Elementary School. This past summer, I facilitated art exploration with elementary school children at TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) where we expressed ideas using different kinds of art materials and techniques.
Awesome Art! is an engaging space where your kids can explore new visual art materials and techniques (all non-toxic) with me.
As a parent and teacher I believe that the process of exploration and art making can often be more valuable than the end product.
We will use quality art materials, this is included in the class fee.
Awesome Art! will take place for 10 weeks after school Mondays (K-2nd Grade) 10/3/16- 12/12/16 and Wednesdays (3rd-5th Grade) 10/5/16- 12/14/16. We will meet from 2.57-4.15pm, to keep the class size small there is a max of 10 kids per class.
The session fee is $265 per child with a $25 discount when siblings are enrolled or when you refer a friend.
Mondays Activities (K-2nd Grade)-Japanese paper marbling, Exploring tempera and watercolor paint, Creating self-portraits with various materials, weaving with various materials, Printmaking, Hand building with clay, Collage with various textures, Exploring color mixing with paint and oil pastels.
Wednesdays Activities (3rd-5th Grade)-The older class will be more personalized and activities will continue weekly, with more scaffolding. We will begin each session with a group discussion where we will discuss children's interests to explore. Some activities may include collagraph/etching/silkscreen, stop motion animation, batik painting, drawing from observation, developing a sketchbook, collaborative mystery mural, clay work with kiln firing.
